6 Easy Paleo Chocolate Bark Recipes

What is a Paleo Diet?

Nerd Fitness summarizes the Paleo diet like this:

“If a caveman didn’t eat it, neither should you.”

The philosophy behind this way of eating makes a lot of sense: instead of wasting time counting up a bunch of calories and keeping track of every little thing we eat (because who the heck has the time for that?), we fix our relationship with food and only eat things that are filling and chock-full of nutrients.

People who adhere to the Paleolithic diet only eat things that a caveman might have eaten back in the day. Can you hunt it or gather it in the wilderness? No? Then you don’t eat it on the Paleo diet.

Why Paleo Instead of Regular Chocolate Bark?

Generally, when we think of chocolate bark, we think of the stuff we buy in tins at the store. It’s delicious, but it unfortunately is bursting with sugar. Often it also comes with a side of questionable (or just plain bad for you) additives, artificial flavors, and then…well, more sugar.

Homemade chocolate bark on the other hand, especially of the Paleo variety, is made with whole ingredients that can really benefit your body.

It’s what we’ve always wanted—chocolate in guilt-free form!

The magic that is raw cacao

One of the healthiest ingredients in Paleo chocolate bark is raw cacao. Let’s talk a little bit why this stuff is so awesome.

For one thing, it is teeming with antioxidants. These prohibit the destructive effects of free radicals in our bodies and can also provide some added protection against heart, eye, and memory problems as well as mood disorders.

Raw cacao also contains magnesium. According to Healthline magnesium is involved in over 600 functions of the body and has benefits like:
  • Keeping depression at bay
  • Migraine prevention
  • Reduces insulin resistance
  • Improves PMS symptoms
  • Has anti-inflammatory benefits
  • Boosted exercise performance
  • Increased energy

An even healthier substitution

Even healthier than this magical raw cacao by itself is SUTRA Black. It contains cacao among several other superfood ingredients.

SUTRA Black can be substituted whenever a recipe calls for cacao powder for an even greater health level-up. That’s right, SUTRA isn’t just for drinking anymore! Use it in any recipe you want, but chocolate bark is a great, simple place to start.
